Waymo and the California Department of Motor Vehicles introduced Tuesday that the Golden State had accredited a allow for the self-driving-car firm to drive in a handful of Silicon Valley cities.
Those cities embrace Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Sunnyvale, and Alphabet’s dwelling metropolis of Mountain View.
Waymo, which was previously a division of Alphabet subsidiary Google, has been allowed underneath state legislation to function autonomous vehicles since 2014. The new allow, the DMV says, “allows the company to test a fleet of about three dozen test vehicles without drivers behind the wheel.”
While Waymo is the primary such firm to get this sort of allow, the DMV additionally famous that 60 producers have licenses that enable them to function with “safety drivers.”
