Get ready for a whole lot of Christmas-saving fun with the first full trailer for “The Christmas Chronicles 2”

It might only be mid-October, but with a very scary election fast approaching and 2020’s current vibe, we’re all extremely ready for the joys of the holiday season. That’s why we’re thrilled with the news that Netflix released the first full trailer for The Christmas Chronicles 2 — and it’s coming to our TVs very soon.

The sequel to the 2018 instant classic happens two years after the original story and this time, Kurt Russell’s Santa Claus gets to save Christmas with his real-life partner Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus (who only appeared briefly at the end of the first film). This time, they’re working together to save the North Pole and prevent the end of Christmas — for good.

The film’s description explains that siblings Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) saved Christmas two years ago, but since then, a lot has changed. “Kate, now a cynical teenager, is reluctantly spending Christmas in Cancun with her mom’s new boyfriend (Tyrese Gibson) and his son Jack (Jahzir Bruno). Unwilling to accept this new version of her family, Kate decides to run away. But when a mysterious, magical troublemaker named Belsnickel threatens to destroy the North Pole and end Christmas for good, Kate and Jack are unexpectedly pulled into a new adventure with Santa Claus (Kurt Russell).”

So the action is focused around Mr. and Mrs. Claus trying to save the season alongside a pair of kids, but the trailer shows us a few fun moments we can’t wait to see in full on November 25th. The film is written and directed by Chris Columbus of Home Alone and Harry Potter fame, so you know it’s gonna be good.

A highlight is an exchange between Russell and Hawn where he notes that Mrs. Claus designed Santa’s Village and Kate suggests it be called “Mrs. Claus’ Village.” Russell’s Santa says, “I never thought of that” and Hawn quips, “of course he didn’t.”

Many hijinks ensue as the kids and Mr. and Mrs. Claus fight to defend Christmas and the village from Belsnickel. There are exploding Christmas cookies, Nerf gun fighting, and lots of other high stakes action scenes (kid-friendly, of course) that will captivate the entire family.

If you didn’t see the first film, you might be the cheese that stands alone. In the first week of its release, the film was watched 20 million times. If you were to compare that to the first week of a traditional theatrical release, that’s a gross of $200 million. People are clearly here for Kurt Russell’s Santa Claus, which is why we’re thrilled he’s coming back for a second installment.

We don’t have very long to wait before Netflix blesses us with this new holiday fave — November 25th is the day, so mark the calendar and stock up on Christmas cookies and hot cocoa.
