Halo: The Complete Video Collection will compile Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, Halo: Nightfall, Halo: The Fall of Reach, the anime series Halo Legends, and some bonus content related to the included content. All told, this collection contains around nine hours of content.
This collection is expected to release on October 31, 2017, and will retail for $29.99. If you’re interested, you can pre-order it now via its Amazon listing page.
Shout! Factory’s complete collection is described as a must-have for collectors and loyal fans which is the audience we’d probably recommend it to as well. This is a pretty all-inclusive collection of Halo spin-offs, but the quality of the individual works varies pretty greatly.
Forward Until Dawn, for instance, is a pretty interesting and somewhat overlooked web series that takes man stylistic cues from the Battlestar Galactica reboot. It serves as a primer for the events of Halo 4 but stands pretty tall on its own as an impressive – if uneven – take on the Halo universe.
Nightfall and The Fall of Reach are arguably a little lower on the Halo hierarchy. Nightfall follows a group of space marines investigating terrorist activity on outer colonies. It’s a sometimes interesting departure from familiar Halo conventions that ultimately struggles to stand on its own.
The Fall of Reach, meanwhile, tells the Spartans’ origin story as well as the story of the early days of the war with the Covenant. It’s based on the book of the same name, which is quite fortunate given that The Fall of Reach is an essential piece of Halo lore. Even though the animated film didn’t please everyone, the story itself is a great one.
As for Halo Legends, it is considered by some to be the best Halo spin-off of them all. Of course, it does take some stylistic liberties with the Halo mythology that may upset those who value “Halo” over “anime” in their Halo animes.
