Trolls Band Together is the third film of the animated Trolls franchise, which once again brings music and dance to the big screen with its colorful cast of characters. While preparing King Gristle and Queen Bridget for their upcoming wedding, a secret arises from Branch’s past: he was once part of a boyband, BroZone, with his brothers. When one of his brothers, Floyd, gets captured by a villainous pop duo, Velvet and Veneer, the Trolls have to go on the road to rescue him.
The Trolls films are already known for their musical numbers, not to mention their star-studded casts, and the third film certainly delivers. In a story filled with boy bands and pop stars, the third film is filled with all sorts of catchy numbers. Many are covers of classic songs, with some being entire medleys woven together from popular songs. With the focus on BroZone, there are especially a few love letters to classic boy bands of the past.
10 “9 to 5”
Performed by Zosia Mamet
One character introduced in Trolls Band Together is Crimp, a hairball-like creature who serves the two antagonists, Velvet and Veneer. In her role as their assistant, she works above and beyond to help the two, trying to impress them with her various inventions. Emphasizing this, she gets to sing “9 to 5,” a song made famous by Dolly Parton.
The song, which was written for the film of the same name, revolves around three mistreated workers trying to overcome their boss, becoming an anthem for put-upon workers.
“What a Way To Make a Livin’…”
In Trolls Band Together, Crimp starts the song as she gets up for bed, visually acting out the lyrics. She literally falls into the kitchen, where she is poured into a cup of coffee, or “ambition.” After a quick “shower,” which entails getting dumped into a sink, she gets to work tending to Velvet and Veneer’s nails and teeth. She is interrupted, however, after getting to the chorus, after she accidentally burns Veneer with an iron, due to him being too lazy to take off his shirt while she’s preparing it.
9 “Perfect”
Performed by Justin Timberlake, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi, Troye Sivan
“Perfect” is one of BroZone’s most popular songs in the story. The title of the song reflects the band’s desire to achieve the “Perfect Family Harmony,” which should unlock a great power once the brothers are in sync.
“You’ll Never, Ever Wanna Let It Go”
BroZone performs the song early on in a flashback, which helps to introduce each of their roles in the group, from the “fun one” to the “sensitive one.” Notably, with Branch being the “baby” of the bunch, Justin Timberlake’s voice was edited to make him sound younger for the film.
They ultimately come close to reaching the perfect harmony. However, the stress and conflicts of being in a boy band ultimately gets to them, ending the concert in failure. The brothers go their separate ways, leaving Branch with his grandmother. The song gets reprised a few more times in the film, notably when the Trolls are on their way to track down Floyd.
8 “It Takes Two”
Performed by Camila Cabello, Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi
Trolls Band Together introduces Viva, who is revealed to be King Peppy’s elder daughter and Poppy’s long-lost sister, who also leads the Putt Putt Trolls, or Golf Trolls, with Clay. Poppy and Viva sing about their newfound sisterhood in “It Takes Two,” joined by Branch and other members of BroZone.
A Tale of Two Sisters
The song reflects the idea of finding a missing part of yourself, effectively saying that family makes someone what they are. Notably, the song is also reprised towards the end of the credits, with Viva getting the film’s final line, “Oh, wow. It’s like sunshine in my earholes,” which effectively describes either the song or the movie itself.

Some of these songs are inspiring and heartwarming while others are intentionally bad, but that doesn’t make them less fun.
7 “Lonely People”
Performed by Troye Sivan
In Trolls Band Together, Floyd was shown to be the closest to Branch when they were part of BroZone, promising to return when he is left with their grandmother. Floyd ends up driving the plot of the movie, as he is caught by Velvet and Veneer in the hopes of draining his talent, inspiring the other characters to try and rescue him.
“Your Ukelele Skills Are Improving”
Floyd sings the song “Lonely People” while he’s imprisoned in a crystal, a cover of a song originally recorded by America which had been written as a response to the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby.”
The song, which is dedicated to all the lonely souls in the world, encourages them to keep the hope of one day getting the life they want. The film visualizes this as Floyd imagining himself floating in the air, looking at images of his past. After four verses, he then compliments Crimp on her ukulele skills, revealing she was accompanying him.
6 “Family”
Performed by Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Camila Cabello, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi, Troye Sivan
Family is an important theme throughout the story of Trolls Band Together, so it was only natural the song starting off the credits would be called “Family.” At this point of the film, with Branch having reunited with both Kismet and BroZone, Branch has a small proposal for Poppy while he’s up on stage, even getting down on one knee. Poppy has already guessed what he wants to ask her: if she’d like to join the band. She enthusiastically agrees and even invites Viva up on stage with her.
“Thirsty For the Juice”
The actors’ names appear on the screen as Poppy and Branch start the song. The song emphasizes the importance of family and being together. As the scene cuts from the characters dancing on stage to still images, the song even starts emphasizing different types of families as it goes on.
5 “Watch Me Work”
Performed by Andrew Rannells, Brianna Mazzola
“Watch Me Work” serves as Velvet and Veneer’s signature song. The villainous sibling duo performs the song while appearing on “The Bop on Top,” a show likely parodying the British show, Top of the Pops. The scene also cuts to a music video made for the song, in which the two flaunt their wealth, even riding a tiger. During the interview, Veneer admits Velvet is his biggest inspiration, a sentiment she literally agrees to, saying she’s her own biggest influence.
“If You Want to Be as Famous as Me…”
The song is meant to be ironic, as Velvet and Veneer literally steal their talent, targeting the members of BroZone, rather than put in any effort or work to actually improve their talent. A flashback even makes clear they don’t have some sympathetic backstory to motivate them. They simply believe they are entitled to fame because they want it. The song also notably gets reprised during the “Mount Rageous” number.
4 “Let’s Get Married”
Performed by Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Zooey Deschanel, Anderson .Paak, Kenan Thompson, Kumal Nayvar, Icona Pop, Ron Funches
The Trolls films are known for songs that combine the medleys of other famous songs, and Trolls Band Together keeps the tradition with “Let’s Get Married.” This includes famous tunes like Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family,” Salt-N-Pepa’s “Push It,” Lizzo’s “Good As Hell,” and Lionel Richie’s “Hello.” As befitting a song for a wedding, Richard Wagner’s “Bridal Chorus” is also included.
A Big Day in Bergen Town
The song starts off the film as Branch and Poppy are set to attend Bridget and Gristle’s wedding. The Trolls help the Bergens get ready for the big event, including preparing Bridget’s dress, which brings to mind the makeover they gave her in the first film. This time, the song ends with Bridget descending from the heavens dressed like a cloud.

Sometimes, the melody and words that we hear clash with what we’re seeing on screen — and somehow, it often works beautifully.
3 “BroZone’s Back”
Performed by Justin Timberlake, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Anna Kendrick
“BroZone’s Back” is the song that marks Branch being willing to sing with his brothers again after Spruce gets recruited, with him performing the song with John Dory, Spruce, and Poppy. Of course, Poppy has to use a little reverse psychology to get Branch to get on stage, admitting he might be too overwhelmed by emotion if he sings when he’s not ready.
“All I Ever Wanted…”
The song mashes up various boy-band songs from over the years, including “Candy Girl” by New Edition, “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” by New Kids on the Block, “Motownphilly” by Boyz II Men, and “Stayin Alive” by Bee Gees.
Notably, the song also samples “I Want You Back” by NSYNC, referencing Timberlake’s musical career, with the lyrics, “You’re all I ever wanted,” likely being in reference to his brothers. Of course, the featured song that gives “BroZone’s Back” its name is “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” by Backstreet Boys, poking fun at NSYNC’s famous rivalry with the band.
2 “Mount Rageous”
Performed by Andrew Rannells, Brianna Mazzola
“Mount Rageous” is the medley that starts up after Branch and Poppy confront and expose Velvet and Veneer, who drive away in a limo, bringing their music to the road, all the while draining the essence from Branch’s captured brothers. As a chase scene ensures, Branch and Poppy are joined up Bridget, Gristle and Viva, even getting help from “Hustleman.”
“Did You Think We Were Going to Give You a Boring Old Stage Show?”
The performance starts off with a cover of “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics, which is considered part of the number’s “extended cut.” However, this eventually segues into a cover of Fame‘s famous theme song, combined with Velvet and Veneer’s song “Watch Me Work.” Ultimately, this is a song that proves even pop music can work as a villain’s song in the right hands.
Throughout the performance, Velvet’s voice is noticeably more prominent than her brother’s. This reflects how she is the more dominant one of the duo, having pressured her brother into going along with her schemes. This also foreshadows Veneer being the one to repent for and publicly confess their crimes.
1 “Better Place”
Performed by NSYNC, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi, Troye Sivan, Anna Kendrick, Camila Cabello
“Better Place (Perfect Harmony)” serves as the lead single from Trolls Band Together‘s soundtrack. The song pays homage to pop music from the 1990s, specifically boy band-style music, in addition to having something of a disco influence. In the film, Branch uses the song to help free the trolls after they’ve been stuck in crystal prisons, with Poppy and Viva joining in.
Branch Wants You to Meet Some Old Friends
Towards the end of the film, it’s revealed that Branch had been part of another band, Kismet, whose members are voiced by other members of NSYNC. They perform a reprise of the song before the credits begin, segueing to “Family.”
The version of the song performed by NSYNC was actually the band’s first release after their studio album, Celebrity, breaking a hiatus lasting more than twenty years. This also naturally pokes fun at Branch being voiced by NSYNC member Justin Timberlake.
